Google Pixel 2 : Everything you need to know about!

The Google event was just great with the entrance of some new hardware products in the family of Google. But the product people want to see was the Google Pixel 2. Yes, the phone has announced and to me, it is looking very great. I wanted to share my thoughts with you and so here I am. Let's start the discussion now.

Design

Hmmmm... There are mixed feelings for the design in my mind. The back of the phone is not the best in my opinion but really had improved a lot. There is a camera bump now and the fingerprint reader is now not the glass piece but below it. At the front, Pixel 2 has even larger looking bezels than the first generation. The Pixel 2 XL has less bezels but still doesn't look like a 2017 flagship.

Camera

The first generation Pixel has the one of the best camera ever in a smartphone. With this new generation, it has now improved a lot with the highest camera rating of 98 as compared to last year's rating of 89. Also, Google has done the work of two cameras in just a single one. The camera can capture photos in portrait mode and even use this mode in selfies. Also, the camera is optimised for augmented reality so you can have fun with it.

Google Lens

The phone came up with Google lens which are for now exclusive just for the 2nd gen pixels but will surely hit a large number of devices.

Software

The phone comes with Android Oreo out of the box with a new version of the Pixel Launcher. The Google search bar has shifted to the bottom just above the navigation bar and something called 'At a glance' at the top which shows your upcoming events of Google Calendar with the date and weather.

Active Edge

The phone has a feature called 'Active Edge' which we first saw in the HTC U11. Just squeeze your phone and you can activate the Google assistant. It would be great if it could be changed for other actions like opening an app. I don't know if it can be done but will be surely looking for it.

Always On Display

The phone has an AMOLED display and Google has used it for featuring the Always On Display which will show you the time with notification badges. Also, it can detect the name of the song playing as it is always listening. You can wake up the phone just by double tapping the display.

Google claims to have the fastest fingerprint scanner in the phone. Yes, the phone is daydream ready, and here is what everybody cares about - the specs.
